David Song
Conductor
Known for his passionate performances, David Song is a well respected violinist and violist. Born in Seoul South Korea, Mr. Song graduated from Seoul Arts High School where he won the Gold Award twice in a highly competitive Ensemble Competition. To complete his education, Mr. Song has received his Bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University and his Master’s degree at The Yale School of Music. Mr. Song officially made his South Korea debut at Ho-am Hall of Performing Arts and NY debut at Carnegie Hall in 1997. Early in his music career, Mr. Song has experienced diverse opportunities and demonstrated great talent and leadership. Mr. Song has performed at various festivals such as at the SMA and the Seoul International Music Festival, where he also taught as a faculty member. Serving as the representative for the Mendelssohn octet, Mr. Song and the octet performed at the Korea Festival Ensemble, winning the Grand Prix and being invited to KBS FM (a Korean Broadcasting System Radio Station) to introduce the Mendelssohn octet. Mr. Song continued to demonstrate his leadership and musical skills by performing as the Principal Violist in the Korean National Youth Orchestra for the Summer Olympics at Seoul (1988). He has also served as the Principal Violist for the New York Sinfonietta of NY and Korean Chamber of NY. Other orchestras Mr. Song has been a part of are the Korean Broadcasting Philharmonic (Korean National Philharmonic), The Baroque Ensemble, and the Seoul Sinfonietta. Recently, Mr. Song has had the privilege in performing at the United Nations and speaking about the pivotal role music can play in fostering global peace for the growth of the next generation at The Heritage Foundation (Wash. D.C) at St. John’s University, NY. Currently, he is an Executive Board Member of the Sejong International Music Festival, and Founder and Chief Executive Director of Jersey City Philharmonic Orchestra (JCPO).
